Bitcoin price
Bitcoin's dollar price and 24-hour change, with three large neighbours still on the board. The point of the heatmap is to see whether bitcoin moved alone or with the coins next to it.

The bitcoin tile
The large figure is the bitcoin price in US dollars from the same CoinGecko cache the crypto heatmap uses. The percent is the 24-hour change. It is a spot-style market price from that cache, not a price from a particular exchange's order book and not a prediction. If the cache has no live row, the tile is marked as a sample and the change is left blank.
Ether, solana and BNB stay on the page so bitcoin is not a single number with no context. A day when all four tiles match is a broad move. A day when bitcoin is quiet and one neighbour is not is a narrower move. You still do not get the cause from the colour.
Why a heatmap and not only a quote
A quote answers 'what is the price'. A heatmap answers 'what else moved'. People staring at one coin miss the board. This page keeps the board small enough for a phone: one featured coin and three neighbours, equal tiles, 24-hour colour. The full crypto heatmap on this site adds a few more large coins. The app can hold a board of any coins you search for.
The page reads the cache. It does not download a new market list for every visit, because that list is shared and refreshed on a long timer. The widget checks back about once a minute and will usually be answered from cache.
What the change is not
A positive day is a higher price than a day ago on this feed. It is not a reason to buy. A negative day is not a reason to sell. Bitcoin can move a lot in an hour, and a 24-hour percent hides the path. The app's chart is the place for the path, if you want candles instead of one tile.
The neighbours are not a basket and not a suggestion. They are large, familiar coins so the eye has something to compare. Open the ether page if you want that coin in the featured spot, or open the app and build the board you actually watch.
Questions
- Is this the bitcoin price on one exchange?
- It is the dollar price from the CoinGecko cache, not a named exchange's order book.
- Why are other coins on the bitcoin page?
- So you can see whether bitcoin moved with or without its large neighbours.
- How fresh is it?
- The coin list is on a shared cache of about half an hour. The widget rechecks about once a minute and reuses that cache.
