Ether price

Ether's dollar price and 24-hour change, with bitcoin, solana and Chainlink still visible. The heatmap is there so ether is not read as a number with no neighbours.

The ether tile

The large figure is the ether price in US dollars from the CoinGecko cache shared with the crypto heatmap and the bitcoin page. The percent is the 24-hour change on that feed. It is not a gas price, not a staking yield, and not a forecast. If the live row is missing, the tile is a sample and the change stays blank.

Bitcoin is on the board because ether is often compared with it, not because the page is taking a side. Solana and Chainlink are there as two different kinds of neighbour: another large coin, and a token people watch for a different reason. Agreement and disagreement across the four tiles is the only thing the colour can show.

Reading ether next to bitcoin

If ether and bitcoin are the same colour and a similar size of move, the day was broad. If ether's percent is far from bitcoin's, ether had its own day and the single quote is not 'just crypto'. The heatmap does not explain the gap. A network event, a flow, or noise can all look the same in one percent.

Equal tiles stop bitcoin's larger dollar price from swallowing the row. In the app you can switch size to market cap when you want bitcoin to occupy more space. This page stays equal so the comparison of percents is the point.

Cache and the rest of the site

This page does not place its own CoinGecko order. It reads the list the app already caches. The widget looks again about once a minute. That is the same pattern as the bitcoin page and the crypto heatmap, so crawling all three does not multiply the market-list calls.

Use the crypto heatmap for a slightly wider set, and the app for a board of your own. The percent on a tile is a description of the last day. It is not advice about holding ether or anything else.

Questions

Is the ether price a gas quote?
No. It is the dollar price of ether from the shared cache, not a fee and not a yield.
Why is bitcoin on this page?
As a neighbour, so ether's day can be compared with bitcoin's day. It is not a recommendation of either.
Will refreshing the page hammer the data feed?
No. The page reuses the app's coin cache, and the widget rechecks about once a minute.
