Gold price
This page shows the gold spot quote in US dollars per troy ounce, and the percent it has moved over the last day. Silver and the other metals on the same feed sit underneath so gold is not read alone.

The figure on the page
XAU/USD is the usual spot symbol for gold against the US dollar. The large number is that quote. The percent next to it is the change versus the previous close from the same feed. It is a spot-style quote, not a futures contract and not a price from a coin shop. A futures month, a retail bar, and this quote can all differ.
The smaller tiles are silver, platinum, palladium, copper and Brent. They come from the same one-minute cache as the commodities heatmap, so this page does not spend a second set of data credits. Silver is the usual neighbour: a day when gold and silver move apart is worth noticing, and a day when they move together is a different kind of day. Neither pattern is a signal to act.
What the daily change does and does not say
A down day means the quote is lower than the previous close. It does not say whether the move was the dollar, jewellery demand, a fund flow, or a headline you have not read. The currency strength meter is a separate page if you want to see whether the dollar itself was bid against the other majors while gold moved.
Gold's price is a large number, so a small percent is still many dollars an ounce. Read the percent first when you are comparing gold with silver or with Brent. Read the dollar figure when you want the ounce price itself.
If the quote is marked as a sample
The free plan is shared. When the minute's credits are used up, or the feed does not answer, the page keeps a sample price and labels it. A sample is not the live ounce price. Wait for the next minute or open the commodities heatmap, which reads the same cache. The app is where the same gold tile can sit on a board with the other markets you follow.
The page records the quote. It does not say whether gold is cheap, expensive, or something you should own.
Questions
- Is this the price of a gold coin or a bar?
- No. It is the XAU/USD spot quote in US dollars per troy ounce from the data feed, not a retail product price.
- How often does the gold price update here?
- About once a minute, from the same cached request as the commodities heatmap.
- Why is silver on the gold page?
- So the ounce price is not read with no neighbour. Silver uses the same request and does not cost an extra fetch.
