Forex heatmap
A forex heatmap puts several pairs on one board and colours each tile by how much it has moved. This page shows the seven major dollar pairs.

Reading a tile
Each tile is one pair. The big figure is the latest price from the shared quote cache. The percent is the change versus the previous close, which on this page is the 24-hour move the data feed reports. Green is up, red is down. The size of the tiles is equal, because a forex pair does not have a market cap the way a share or a coin does.
The pairs are EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZD/USD, USD/JPY, USD/CAD and USD/CHF. That set is enough to see whether the dollar is broadly bid or offered, and whether one currency is doing something the others are not. It is the same request the currency strength meter uses, so opening both pages does not start a second fetch while the cache is warm.
What a heatmap is good at
A heatmap is a way to scan. You notice the loud tile first, then you look at its neighbours. If the three pairs quoted as 'dollar per foreign currency' are red and the three quoted as 'foreign currency per dollar' are green, you are mostly looking at a dollar move. If only one pair is loud, the story is narrower than the whole board.
The board will not tell you why the move happened. News, the session, and a cross that is not on this page can all sit behind a colour. London and New York overlap is usually the busiest stretch. A colour from a thin hour deserves a second look before you treat it as the day's story.
Live quotes and the free plan
Quotes come from Twelve Data and are cached for about a minute. The free plan allows eight symbol credits a minute, and seven are used here. The page says so when it is showing a sample instead of a live quote. Use the strength meter if you want those same pairs turned into a rank. Use the app if you want crosses, a different window, or a board that mixes forex with the other markets you follow.
Nothing on the board is an instruction to trade. A red tile is a pair that fell. A green tile is a pair that rose. That is the whole claim.
Questions
- Are these pairs updating live?
- They update about once a minute from a shared cache. If the feed is down, the tiles are marked as a sample.
- Can I add EUR/GBP or other crosses?
- Not on this page. Open the app and add the crosses to your own forex board.
- Why are the tiles the same size?
- Forex pairs are not sized by market cap. Equal tiles keep one pair from dominating the picture just because its price is a large number.
